What are the real treasures in our lives? What is it that makes us rich as human beings? As we reflect on this question, our thoughts might include our families, friends, pets, colleagues, time spent engaging in the things we love which could be reading, sport, the arts, or being in nature, times of stillness, fun and laughter, wondering and having time to be creative and new experiences and learning. We can be inspired and find treasure in the stories of others as they achieve amazing things or overcome significant challenges. We are reminded of what a treasure our health is when we or others become unwell.  A treasure could be a smile, a hand of welcome, or a listening ear.  We find treasure as we respond to the needs of another person and reflect on the things for which we are grateful.

The story of Job in the Bible reminds us of our greatest treasure and that is our relationship with God. In this story, Job loses everything in his life including his health.  The one thing that remains is his faith which sustains him. Taking time to explore our relationship to God and have it at our centre, enriches us deeply in all circumstances and enables other treasures to shine even more brightly.
