Last Friday, Year 5 students had an extremely exciting adventure to the Gympie Gold Museum for a school excursion. Everyone was full of anticipation as we set forth on a mission to discover gold!

As we explored the museum, we experienced many artefacts like old washing machines, bullets and telephone boxes from the early 1900’s. We also learnt how people lived ‘back in the day’ and about the gaol, which housed criminals throughout the Gympie Gold Rush. We were delighted to have the opportunity to pan for gold and watch the blacksmith at work. Many students succeeded and were thrilled to take home some gold.

It was great for us to experience a real gold mine, as this is what we have been studying this term in History. We didn’t make a fortune, but EUREKA, what an awesome day!
