Monday Night Netball

Well done to all our PLC Netball teams who are progressing well after the mid-semester break.  Currently, we have 6 teams that have the potential to make the final top 4 teams with two more games to go. With highly competitive pools, the ladder is very close, and the top spots are very much up for grabs. Thank you to all our committed players, coaches and parents for their time and energy given to our netball program.

Vicki Wilson Netball

We have 4 teams representing the College at the prestigious Queensland Vicki Wilson Secondary Schools Competition.  The preliminary competition is held on Thursday 1st June where the top two teams in Vicki Wilson Cup and Vicki Wilson Shield divisions will represent Sunshine Coast Secondary Schools and play in the final series at Nissan Arena in August. We wish our teams all the best in their preparations for this event.

SCISSA Soccer

It was a tough afternoon for our Senior Soccer teams with all teams going down in some hard-fought matches. It was a very close game between our Senior Boys and Immanuel College, but the opposition managed to see the game out with a slender 1 goal lead. Our Senior Girl’s teams faced some quality opposition in their fixtures and will be looking to bounce back next week.

Junior and Intermediate Volleyball

It was also a tough night for our volleyball teams with a few narrow losses across the board. The Intermediate Girls Team 2 did a great job of fighting back in the second set but unfortunately, the third set got away from them. It was a flip of this dynamic for the Junior Girls who hit the ground running with a strong first set before their opposition stepped up and took the next two. Our Intermediate Boys had a hard game against a strong Matthew Flinders side and will have picked up plenty of experience to keep progressing their skills in A division. Well done to our Intermediate Girls Team 1 who won 2-0 in their fixture against Matthew Flinders yesterday in a very strong showing.

Rugby

The U14 boys faced some tough competition this week, losing to Sunshine Coast Grammar 17-0. The boys put up a strong defensive effort and continued to defend well up until the final whistle. The boys will continue to train hard throughout the week and focus on continuing to improve their game plan for their match against Sienna next Wednesday.

Sunshine Coast Futsal Championships

We recently had 4 teams represent PLC in the Sunshine Coast Futsal Championships held at the Caloundra Indoor Centre. This opportunity was offered to students who had participated in the full season of SCISSA soccer as a means of recognizing and celebrating their commitment to our sports program. As our teams found out, it is a very tough competition, and our boys’ teams took away a lot of valuable learning opportunities regarding how the game is played. Our U16 girls’ teams found success on the last day of the tournament and competed in the Grand Final, narrowly going down to Chancellor in extra time. Thank you to all our Junior and Intermediate soccer players for their fantastic efforts in representing PLC this year. A special mention to Ms Rebekah Horsey and Mr Tony Davies for giving their time over the 3 days of the tournament to work with our students.

District Cross Country

A big thank you to the 40 PLC students who represented PLC at the Independent District Cross Country on Tuesday the 9th May. Our runners competed to their best and pushed themselves over quite a tricky course. One of the highlights of the day was our 14 Yrs Girls winning their age division as the combined points of each of the runners involved put them on top. A special mention also goes to the runners below who placed in the top 6 and will be invited to attend the Sunshine Coast Cross Country Carnival in a few weeks.

Logan Pohlner: 2nd Place 17 Boys

Joshua Groll: 6th Place 16 Boys

Oliver Friend: 5th Place 15 Boys

Sascha Cleland: 3rd Place 14 Boys

Hayden Cole: 5th Place 14 Boys

Porscha Taylor: 4th Place 14 Girls

Abby Novosel: 5th Place 14 Girls
