Basketball

The Secondary Schools Basketball competition has been running since early Term 3 and last Friday evening, the final Pacific team finished their season. Well done to the Intermediate C girls who unfortunately went down in their semi-final by 9 points. The girls fought back during the game but were not able to bridge the gap. Overall, Pacific had five teams play in the finals this season which is an outstanding achievement. Thank you to Mr Mark Hauser for his continued knowledge and passion leading our basketball program and also to all teachers and external coaches who were part of the program this year.

Rugby 7s

The SCISSA Rugby 7s season finished up on Wednesday evening for our Under 13 and 15 boys’ and girls’ teams. It was a pleasure seeing so many students sign up to play rugby for the College this year. Well done to our Under 15A girls who won both their games against Matthew Flinders Anglican College and Sunshine Coast Grammar School to finish Runners Up this season. The Under 13 girls and Under 13 boys also had wins on the night. Thank you to Mr Josh Cummins who was instrumental in the increase in student numbers this season and to all staff and external coaches who led teams this season.

Pacific Mountain Biking

On Friday 6th November, eight students from Pacific Mountain Biking competed in the inaugural Sunshine Coast Schools Mountain Bike Competition. The competition involved 150 students from local schools and included three stages targeting different strengths – a cross country endurance stage, a flow stage and a technical rocky stage. Students could attempt each stage up to five times throughout the day with their fastest time counted towards their results.

The students provided strong competition, with the format requiring them to strategise throughout the day to incorporate recovery breaks, eating and stages to get their best times down. As they day progressed and fatigue set in, they were forced to find new ways of generating and maintaining speed and momentum that weren’t as reliant on their tired legs!

The group persisted and represented the College well. Standout performances include Ethan Haas’ late efforts, which moved him from 36th position to third place in the Year 9-10 division. Patrick Swindles also produced some very fast times throughout the day to clinch a place on the podium in the senior boys division, with our other two senior boys also finishing in the top 7.

All the boys relished the opportunity to test their skills and fitness against other keen mountain bikers and it proved to be a valuable learning experience. Very well done to the following students who represented Pacific:

  • Carter Costa
  • Tom Farrell
  • Joshua Stevenson
  • Ethan Haas
  • Patrick Swindles
  • Bailey Thiele
  • Riley Mannion
  • Thomas Ford
