Year 9 student Joseph Higginson has recently completed a Senior Astronomy Course through the University of Southern Queensland (USQ). While the course is recommended for high achieving Year 11 students, it has previously been delivered to talented Year 10 students. What makes Joseph’s successful completion of this course such an outstanding feat, is that he started it when he was in Year 8 and has completed it this year as a Year 9 student. Joseph has gained a place in The School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (TSAA) record book as the youngest student to successfully complete the 12-month tertiary-level Astronomy course.

Over the yearlong course, Joseph engaged with professional academics and astronomers from institutions around the world. In addition, as it is also recognised as ‘Advanced School-Based Study’ by QCAA, Joseph will be eligible for two credit points towards his Year 12 QCE.

Congratulations to Joseph on this outstanding achievement!
