Our ‘One World’ OCEANFest 2023 is fast approaching, and we are looking forward to having a lot of fun as we celebrate the richness of our cultural diversity and natural environment on Friday, August 18th. We will have the opportunity to connect and enjoy the various forms of entertainment, great food, and laser show and take advantage of the generous donations and products on offer through various stalls, auctions and raffles. We thank the many people who are helping to shape a great community event including our sponsors and those who have donated prizes or products, the OCEANFest 2023 team capably led by Ms Samantha Barrass and the Friends of Pacific, and the staff, students and parents who have volunteered to assist on the evening.  Family members can purchase ride passes, raffle tickets and register to volunteer to support our stall leaders later in this newsletter. Further communication in regard to adjusted times for the end of the day on Friday to assist with traffic movement will be emailed home next week.

Last Friday we celebrated Grandparents' Day where we highlighted the rich growth that occurs through the special relationship that exists between young people and their grandparents. It was a tremendous morning where over 450 grandparents and family members enjoyed the chapel presented by our Prep students and Chappie Mark, learning time in class with their grandchildren, a tasty morning tea and then performances by our talented musicians. We thank our families for your strong support of this special morning, Mr Damian Davis and Mrs Sue Zweck and the P-5 teaching team, our hospitality, grounds, IT and music teams for making the morning such a rich experience for all involved.

It was a privilege to join the Year 12 students in their celebration of 100 days to go this week.  This celebration coincided with the completion of internal assessment for general subjects for the Year 12 group and was a special moment of celebration of what has been achieved thus far. They can be proud of who they have been and what they have achieved individually and collectively as a cohort. We wish them all the best as they now prepare for the mock exams later this term, the external exams next term, the completion of qualifications and final year celebrations.  We thank the Year 12s for what they have given and for providing breakfast for staff and students to share.

We congratulate our Senior Girls Volleyball team who won their grand final of Division 2 of the Senior Schools Cup on the Gold Coast last weekend. The competition attracted teams from across the state and our girls can be very proud of their achievement. We thank coach Sarah Ashdown and teachers Mrs Leah Croke and Mrs Tiffany Harmon for accompanying the girls.

Congratulations to our Senior Girls Basketball team who have earnt a place in the Champion Basketball Schools Queensland State Titles competition through being undefeated in the Wild Card trials held this week. This is a great achievement and means that Pacific now has a regular place in these State Championships for both our male and female teams. We thank coach Brooklyn Graves and manager Mr Brad Burdon for the preparation of the girls for this competition.

We farewell Mrs Sharon Middleton who has provided tremendous service to our community and to many of us through her roles in administration and more recently as a nurse.  We have always appreciated Sharon’s warmth, capability and professionalism in the way she has provided care and admin support to us over many years since 2004.  We have valued Sharon’s generosity of hands and heart enabling us and our community in many different contexts and thank her for her significant contribution to our community. We wish Mrs Middleton and her family all the best as she moves to the next phase of life and we look forward to connecting with her as she continues to support our outdoor education experiences.  Mrs Sigrid Davis will be commencing as College Nurse on Monday 14th August.

We thank God for the many blessings he has given and continues to provide through the people in our lives. We pray that he might guide us to be people who plant good seeds in the hearts and minds of those we encounter.
