Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students have engaged well with NAPLAN testing this week. We thank the teachers for their support and preparation of the students. As a College, we look forward to using the data to celebrate progress and to identify areas for growth for individuals and cohorts. The earlier release of data has enhanced its usefulness as one of the pieces of evidence used to reflect on student learning.

We look forward to the staging of ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ this weekend. There was a buzz around the College this week as the set was loaded and transported to the Caloundra Civic Centre and students have completed their final preparations. We wish Mrs Janine Delaney and her cast and crew all the best in their performance of a very significant piece of theatre.

Two of our teams have progressed to the final stages of the Mayor’s Technology Challenge 2016. Members of our community can support the student’s work by voting for our teams in the people’s choice category. To show your support, visit: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1198696193514528.1073741829.130490307001794&type=3 and write the name of our school and idea (Pacific Lutheran College – Surf Tracker and Pacific Lutheran College – Musical Maestro) in the comments section on any of the photos. We wish both teams all the best and thank them for the considerable time they have spent in preparing their entries. A particular thank you to Mrs Janine Stone who has also provided many hours of support for the students.

Families are invited to the installation of Pastor Tim Jarick at the College next Friday 20th May at 8.30am. This special service will be held in the gymnasium. The installation rite will be led by Bishop Paul Smith and involve members of our community including our local pastor, Pastor Ray Morris.

This week we farewell Mrs Lesley Onyett who is retiring after many years of service as a teacher in Education Queensland and at Pacific. Mrs Onyett has provided great support to many students and their families in her role as Head of Learning Enrichment. Her care for people has been greatly valued. Teachers have appreciated Mrs Onyett’s professional guidance and leadership in enhancing the learning opportunities for a diverse range of learners. Her oversight of a complex area of the College has been greatly appreciated by the leadership team who have valued her understanding of people and processes. We celebrate with Mrs Onyett and acknowledge the significant difference she has made for many young people, their families and teachers not just here at Pacific but over her career as a teacher. She can proud of a job well done!

May God give us hearts filled with appreciation for what we have.

Dr Bronwyn Dolling, Principal
