Next Monday we are looking forward to hosting teachers from Redeemer Lutheran College, Nuriootpa who are coming to learn about our approach to teaching and learning. Discussion will focus on our whole of College pedagogical framework, which incorporates the flexible use of physical and virtual spaces. St John’s Lutheran School from Kingaroy visited us in the last week of Term 3 and were impressed with the calm and engaged nature of our students as well as the richness of learning the students were encountering. Staff and students should feel affirmed in what they have achieved together in supporting the development of an innovative and purposeful learning environment.

We are in the final phase of the selection process for the Director of Staff position, which has attracted high quality experienced candidates from interstate as well as within Queensland, and included applicants from large metropolitan independent schools and regional schools as well as a number of high quality internal candidates. We look forward to finalising this position in the coming week.

It is exciting to learn that our Quberider experiment has been cleared to launch from a Japanese space centre on 9th December. We congratulate Mrs Janine Stone and the team of Cameron Heeney, Harry Stone, Liam Dines, Isaac Barnes and Finn McCarthy for their work on this remarkable project. The team has programmed an experiment that is designed to see if the changes outside the International Space Station affect the inside environment.

We wish our Junior A Girls, Intermediate B Girls, Intermediate B Boys and Senior C Girls basketball teams all the best for their semi final games this week and congratulate the Junior B Boys who have secured a place in the grand final. We thank coaches Mrs Tanya Graves, Mr Scott Crompton, Mr Nico Prinsloo, Mrs Michi Hauser and Mr Mark Hauser for their support and leadership of the students.

We look forward to the return of our Year 6 students from Canberra on Friday. By all accounts they are having a very enjoyable and educational time in our National Capital. Since their arrival on Sunday, students and teachers have visited Questacon, the National Capital Exhibition, Mount Ainslie, Old Parliament House and the Museum of Australian Democracy, Parliament House, the CSIRO Discovery Centre, the Royal Australian Mint, the National Arbortoreum, Government House, Geoscience Australia, the National Film and Sound Archive and the Australian Institute of Sport. At Government House students and teachers were privileged to meet the Governor-General himself, the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC, who spent 20 minutes with them. At Parliament House, students and teachers enjoyed listening to Question Time between our Prime Minister Mr Malcolm Turnbull and Leader of the Opposition Mr Bill Shorten.

We also look forward to the upcoming Grandparents’ Day and Student Art Exhibition on Friday 21st October. The Student Art Exhibition provides the opportunity for the College community to enjoy the artistic talent of our young people from Kindergarten to Year 12. It is always a very relaxed and enjoyable evening. We thank Mrs Denise McMahon, Mrs Kym Rodgers and Mrs Rowena Marshall for the considerable work that goes into supporting young people in the development of their artwork as well as the planning and organisation of the exhibition itself.

May we all have grateful hearts that support a generosity of spirit to respond to the needs of those around us.

Dr Bronwyn Dolling, Principal
