Nurturing Young Entrepreneurs: A Glimpse into the First Week of Term

As we kickstart the semester in Enterprise, I want to take a moment to share the amazing progress and creativity of our young budding entrepreneurs in Year 8.

In the first week of this term, our students delved into the captivating world of entrepreneurship. They explored the meaning and essence of being entrepreneurial, gaining valuable insights into the skills and mindset required to turn ideas into reality. Through engaging discussions and activities, they discovered that entrepreneurship goes far beyond starting a business—it's about embracing innovation, problem-solving, and creative thinking.

One of the highlights of the week was the "Unwanted Inventions" project. Our students examined peculiar inventions from a serial inventor on YouTube.  These inventions often missed the mark and never quite captured the public's interest. Using their keen sense of imagination and innovative flair, our Year 8’s took on the challenge to redesign these seemingly flawed inventions into something fresh and exciting.

Their enthusiasm was palpable as they worked tirelessly to come up with new concepts, improve existing designs, and infuse their unique touches into each creation. Witnessing their enthusiasm was truly inspiring, and we were amazed at the ingenuity our young minds possess.

Having redesigned their inventions, the students were then tasked with the thrilling prospect of preparing an "Elevator Pitch." They learned the art of concise and persuasive communication—essential skills for any entrepreneur. As they confidently presented their revamped ideas in front of their peers, we saw remarkable growth in their public speaking abilities and self-assurance.

In the upcoming week, our young entrepreneurs will dive into the realm of financial analysis, specifically exploring the concept of a "Break-Even Analysis." This exercise will help them understand the crucial point at which revenue equals expenses, providing a solid foundation for making informed business decisions.

As parents, your support and encouragement are invaluable to the success of these young entrepreneurs. Engaging in conversations about their projects, asking questions about their ideas, and fostering an environment of curiosity and creativity at home will undoubtedly enrich their learning experience.

I look forward to sharing more updates on our students' progress as the term unfolds. Together, let's nurture the next generation of trailblazers and change-makers.

Thank you for being an essential part of this exciting journey.

Mr Wesley Warner, Head of Department – Innovation, Entrepreneurialism and Business
