Interhouse Swimming Carnival

A big thank you to all students and staff who were a part of this year’s 7-12 Inter House Swimming Carnival. We were blessed with fantastic conditions on Wednesday amidst some recent poor weather. It was great seeing a mix of students of all abilities doing their best to represent themselves and their Houses in both competitive and non-competitive events.

A special mention goes to our King of the Pool, Charles Garland and Queen of the Pool, Isabella Van Der Merwe, for their superb efforts in the 200m medley.

Also, a huge congratulations to Isabella Van Der Merwe for breaking the Open Girls 50m Breaststroke record.

This year the top honour for Champion House goes to a very deserving Buran House. They swam strongly on the day and had lots of representation in all events.

Congratulations to Bula House who were the recipients of the Spirit Trophy after showing great support and loud encouragement for their house all day.

The final congratulations belong to this year’s age runners up and age champions for each year level. These students generally competed in every event and certainly looked exhausted when collecting their awards at the end.

Age Champions List

District Swimming Carnival

The results from the Interhouse Carnival will be used to determine the fastest 4 freestyle students, 3 fastest students in backstroke, breaststroke and 2 fastest butterfly swimmers. These students will be selected in the PLC Swim Team to represent the College on Thursday 22nd February at a twilight carnival held at Sunshine Coast Grammar Pool. Notification will be sent home via TASS for students who are selected. Students who are in the 12 years age group but are in Year 7 will attend the Senior District Carnival and compete in the 12 years division. They will not combine with the 12 years students in Year 6 as they have in previous years. The 9-12yrs Independent District Carnival will take place during school Thursday 22nd February.

Competitive Sport News

SCISSA Junior and Intermediate Soccer

All our SCISSA soccer teams worked hard this week and should be proud of their efforts showing up and competing after a long, warm day at the swimming carnival. They played against some tough teams and continued to try without many teams having any subs on their bench. It is an expectation that students who have signed up to competitive sport teams are committing to all games, and if not attending, they need to advise their coaches in advance.

Results (Round 2)

SCISSA Senior Volleyball

Once again, we had our Senior Volleyball teams travelling all over the coast for their fixtures on Wednesday night. A big thank you to the players and coaches who are committing their time and energy to represent PLC in competitive sport. A fantastic effort by our teams with wins across the board and one loss. While the wins are a pleasant outcome, our focus is celebrating student commitment to representing PLC with their teams each week. The majority of our senior students are doing an amazing job and they are supporting their team mates admirably. It is an expectation that students who have signed up to competitive sport teams are committing to all games, and if not attending, they need to advise their coaches in advance. We look forward to celebrating more volleyball success next week.

Results (Round 2)

Trish Buckley

Trish Buckley volleyball kicks off on Friday 16th February with PLC submitting a Year 11 Girls and Year 12 Boys and Girls team. We wish them all the best with their matches and hope they have a lot of success in the tournament.

Kayaking

With the PLC Kayaking Program starting in Term 2, we are looking for any interested parents with potential experience in watercraft who may be able to volunteer their time to the program. The program has greatly benefitted from the fantastic involvement from parents in previous years. If you are interested, please contact me at ljacka@pacluth.qld.edu.au

Student Acknowledgements

• We congratulate Sierra Anderson who competed in the U16s University of the Sunshine Coast Little Athletics. She was able to finish in the top three in all 5 events she competed in along with winning Long Jump, 300m Hurdles and 90m Hurdles.

• In January, Carter Kiernan was fortunate enough to officially sign a contract with the Dolphins Junior NRL Academy for the next three years. This contract is a pathway to the Queensland Cup and the NRL. It will see him involved in regular training sessions with the squad at Redcliffe as well as individual training sessions on the Sunshine Coast.

Carter was given the opportunity to join the Academy for a couple of training sessions late last year as well as attending a 2-day camp before Christmas where he was involved in team building activities and given the opportunity to meet some current Dolphins players.

Sunshine Coast Secondary School Netball

Sunshine Coast Secondary School Netball (known as Monday Night Netball) starts on Monday 19th February where we currently have 9 Netball teams registered in this competition.

The first game is at 4.00pm and the last game is at 7.20pm.

We welcome PLC family and friends to come along and support all our teams.  A detailed draw will be sent out shortly to all parents and players.
