Future-Focused Success on the International Stage
Pacific has developed a reputation for excellence in Future Problem Solving (FPS), with the program continuing to grow each year through the rich opportunities provided by Pacific Plus. What began as a small group of passionate problem solvers has evolved into a thriving program, with increasing numbers of students qualifying for National and International Finals and achieving outstanding success across multiple divisions.
The International Future Problem Solving Competition is a prestigious global event that, in 2026, brought together participants from 11 countries, 33 states across the United States and 259 schools. During this period, Pacific students have successfully competed in the Global Issues Problem Solving, Community Projects and Storytelling divisions.
Pacific students first attended the International Future Problem Solving Conference in 2021. Following a return in 2023, the College has proudly been represented at the international event each year since, reflecting the continued growth and success of Pacific's Future Problem Solving program.
In 2024, a team of Pacific students travelled to the University of Massachusetts, Boston, to compete in the highly competitive Global Issues Problem Solving division, where they also presented their Action Plan to an international audience. In 2025, Pacific's presence expanded further, with additional students participating in the Magic Division and collaborating with peers from around the world.
A significant milestone was achieved in 2025 when Amy Richards became the first Pacific student to qualify for the International Finals as an individual competitor in the Global Issues Problem Solving Division. She was joined by Jessica Cronin, who placed first nationally in the Community Projects Division. Both students travelled to Indiana University in Bloomington, representing Pacific with distinction. Amy's international team progressed to the Action Plan finals, while Jessica earned an outstanding second place internationally for her project presentation and interview.
In 2026, Pacific once again celebrated exceptional success, with students qualifying for the international competition in three divisions. Isla Lendrum placed first in the Senior Global Issues Problem Solving Division at the Australian National Competition held at Knox Grammar School in Sydney, while Evie Schneck qualified first in the Storytelling Division and came 3rd in this division at the International Competition. The Project Paws team, comprising Talya Cronin, Louise Greene, Alani Wedding and Jing Han, achieved third place nationally and received an invitation to compete at the International Finals in Indiana.
We are incredibly proud of our students, who not only participate in the intensive five-day international competition but also embrace every opportunity to learn, collaborate and grow. Throughout the event, students experience university life by staying in dormitories, dining on campus and participating in a wide range of cultural and social activities, including a memento exchange, combined choir, variety show, disco and international social events. They also engage in workshops and presentations designed to further develop their problem-solving and leadership capabilities.
The Future Problem Solving program aims to develop “Future Ready” problem solvers who learn how to think, not what to think. This philosophy aligns strongly with Pacific’s values and commitment to nurturing curious, capable and compassionate young people. We are proud to see our students applying these skills on the world stage and developing the confidence and capability to create meaningful change in their communities and beyond.
