At last week’s Queensland Independent Schools Summit (QISS), the question was raised about whose voices we are not hearing. Within any group, including families, friendship groups, our Pacific community, workplaces and community groups including churches, there will be people who feel unseen and unheard. It is worth pausing and reflecting on who we are not really seeing or hearing and why? Our challenge is to build bridges where people feel isolated by moats of difference. Protective walls can grow up around people that require patient presence for trust to grow, doors to open and bridges to be built.

God encourages us to reach out in love to our neighbour, especially in times of challenge. Listening carefully to what is said and unsaid can open doors, millimetre by millimetre. When doors are open, hope and light flow through. Connections grow and people flourish.

One of the ways that we provide opportunity for people’s voices to be heard is through our Annual Review and Strategic Hopes Survey. The survey will be extended until midday Monday 31st August. Our Administration and Learning Executive team will begin formulating our 2027-2032 Strategic Plan next week, drawing on ideas generated during our Strategic Planning Day and on data gathered through the Annual Review and Strategic Hopes Survey and other sources. The Annual Review and Strategic Hopes Survey provides opportunity for every family voice to be heard. Thank you to those families who have provided input. Your time and thoughts are greatly appreciated. A final email invitation will be sent out this week to save people from searching through their inboxes.

There was a lot of energy and excitement as we celebrated Book Week. Reading is fun and enables us to learn more about ourselves and the world. It opens space for deep reflection and connection, laughter and vicarious adventures and experiences. Reading physical books calms our minds and bodies, prompts better sleep and enhances memory and focus. Creating time within our daily routines to read a physical book even if is only five pages makes a difference. We thank our staff and particularly our Library team, capably led by Ms Keen for constantly promoting a love of reading.

We look forward to the launch of our Pacific Tiny Homes on Friday 28th August, from 3.00pm – 5.00pm at Moffat Beach Brewing Co. Production House. This exciting new learning experience will provide the opportunity for our students to learn alongside and from the trade and industry professionals who are members of our community. We look forward to exploring partnership opportunities through sponsorship, materials, mentorship and industry experience. Community members are invited to register through the link provided later in the newsletter. We thank Acting Head of Design and Industrial Technology Middle College, Mr Sam Irwin and Head of Design and Industrial Technology, Mr Ian Learoyd for their leadership of this exciting and innovative project.

The creative and fun-loving spirit of our community pulsed through the FoP Trivia night last Friday. Amid the laughter and debates about answers, people enjoyed the opportunity to relax, connect and have fun. We thank MC Mr Scott Jamieson who did an amazing job keeping a great flow to the evening, our Pacific Navy and Blue Rock Bands and Mr Finn Lund and musical partner for providing great musical entertainment, our parent and staff volunteers and the Friends of Pacific team capably led by Mrs Louise Walker for their organisation and running of the evening. We thank our sponsors for their generosity. We thank our parents who made the evening a great fun night. Thank you! It was a wonderful way to end the week.

We wish our Year 6 team of staff and students all the best as they embark on their Year 6 Canberra Tour next week. We thank Head of Outdoor Education, Mr Paul Brace, our Year 6 teachers and accompanying staff for the considerable time and thought that goes into planning and leadership of this great experience.

There is an old Sesame Street song that asks, “Who are the people in your neighbourhood?” In this week’s text (Luke 13:10-17), Jesus seems to pose further questions about our neighbourhood. As we look at this text we can ask, “How does a neighbourhood care for all, both young and old?” And “How can we develop a caring neighbourhood?” 

In Australia, our neighbourhood usually refers to the immediate area where we live. But it can also include the local area or suburb where we live or spend most of our time. With the increase of global media and our greater access to social media, our neighbourhood seems to be getting wider. But we all have a responsibility to make a caring difference within our neighbourhood.

In our text this week, Jesus sees the woman who has been physically restricted for eighteen years. Although she’s present in the neighbourhood and synagogue, her suffering could easily become invisible to those around her. But a caring neighbourhood pays attention to people who may be isolated, elderly, disabled, unwell, grieving, lonely, or struggling financially or emotionally. Care begins by seeing people rather than overlooking them. Jesus then calls the woman forward, treating her as a person worthy of attention and dignity.

Jesus heals her on the Sabbath, while the synagogue leader believes such work should not be done then. Jesus’ action makes it clear that religious practice or community rules should not become excuses for withholding mercy and care. A caring neighbourhood asks, “What does this person need right now?” and acts on it. It doesn’t simply say, “That’s not my responsibility” or “This is not the right time to help.” Rather a caring neighbourhood will find time for emergency help, practical support, a listening ear, visiting others, providing needed meals, offering needed transport, and speaking up for others, even when that is inconvenient.

The woman had been “bound” for many years. Instead of blaming or shaming her, Jesus released her from what was holding her down. By contrast the synagogue leader added a further burden by criticizing the timing of her healing. As a caring neighbourhood we need to avoid gossip, judgement, stigma and rigid expectations. We seek to identify the burdens people carry and ask how they can be reduced. This may involve making public spaces accessible to all, ensuring that newcomers are included, checking on vulnerable residents, or helping someone obtain services they cannot manage alone.

Jesus calls the women “a daughter of Abraham”, affirming that she fully belongs within God’s people. He does not define her by her disability or by the length of her illness. He sees her as being as valuable as everyone else. This challenges neighbourhoods to treat every resident as a valued member of the community. People need not be viewed merely as those with problems, recipients of charity, or outsiders. A caring neighbourhood protects dignity, includes people in decision-making, and ensures that those with disabilities or other vulnerabilities can participate fully within the community.

Jesus exposed the inconsistency of the synagogue leader’s practices. He pointed out that he was willing to untie his animals to give them water on the Sabbath, yet he objected to the woman being freed from her many years of suffering. This encourages neighbourhoods to challenge policies, attitudes, or traditions that protect rules while neglecting people’s needs. Care is not only showing individual kindness. It can also involve speaking up when housing is inadequate or too costly, transport is limited or difficult to access, people are being discriminated against, poverty is increasing, or institutional practices prevent someone from flourishing.

After being healed, the woman stands upright and praises God. When the crowd sees this and hears how Jesus replies to the synagogue leader, they also rejoice at what Jesus has done. The community’s proper response is joy rather than suspicion or resentment. A caring neighbourhood celebrates its member’s progress. When someone recovers from illness, gains renewed independence, finds employment, makes friends, or overcomes a difficult period, the only response can be celebration and joy. A caring community recognizes that one person’s wellbeing strengthens the whole neighbourhood.

In this text, Jesus portrays a caring neighbourhood as a community where people are seen, released from unnecessary burdens, treated as belonging, defended when excluded, and welcomed when they stand tall again. This is the type of neighbourhood that we are striving for at Pacific and in our surrounding communities. This is why we get involved in the Red Shield Appeal and Sleepout for Hope in conjunction with Mission Possible and St Mark’s Lutheran, Caloundra. Week 7 often marks a point in the term where students encounter increasing levels of challenge. Assessment tasks begin to accumulate, feedback becomes more frequent, friendships are tested, and motivation can start to fluctuate. These are the moments that shape learning, character and growth.

A recent analogy I came across captured this idea perfectly. Talent is easy to notice:

• Speed
• Skill
• Strength
• Natural ability

These qualities often attract attention and praise. However, character is revealed when things become difficult. It shows up:

• When feedback is hard to hear.
• When an assessment result is disappointing.
• When confidence takes a knock.
• When a friendship faces tension.
• When effort is required long after motivation has faded.

The analogy refers to this quality as "The Dog". Not talent, but the self determination, resilience and grit to keep showing up when circumstances are less than ideal. Talent may open doors, but resilience is what keeps us knocking when those doors do not immediately open.

At school, we celebrate achievement, but we also recognise the behaviours that lead to achievement. The student who revises after receiving constructive feedback. The student who asks for help when learning becomes challenging. The student who works through a friendship issue with maturity. The student who persists with a difficult task rather than giving up. These moments often tell us more about future success than natural ability ever could.

This is where self-regulation becomes so important. Self-regulation is the ability to understand and manage our emotions, thoughts and behaviours when faced with adversity. It helps students:

• Pause before reacting to feedback.
• Manage disappointment and frustration.
• Stay focused during assessment periods.
• Navigate relationships with empathy and respect.
• Persist when learning becomes challenging.

Importantly, self-regulation is not only about managing ourselves. It is also about recognising our responsibility to others. This fortnight's pastoral focus has encouraged students to think beyond themselves and consider how they contribute to the wellbeing of their communities. A meaningful life is built on more than individual success. It is also about:

• Looking after our neighbours.
• Caring for our environment.
• Supporting one another.
• Making a positive contribution to the community.

Students who learn to regulate themselves are often better equipped to care for others. They become more reflective, more empathetic and more aware of the impact their actions have on those around them.

Alongside self-regulation, students are continuing to develop metacognitive strategies by reflecting on their learning and thinking. Questions such as:

• What strategy worked well for me?
• What did I learn from this setback?
• How did I respond when things became difficult?
• What will I do differently next time?

help students become more intentional, resilient and independent learners. When students understand not only what they are learning, but how they learn best, they are better equipped to thrive when challenges arise.

Parents play an important role in reinforcing these conversations at home. Consider asking:

• What challenged you this week?
• How did you respond when things became difficult?
• What feedback helped you grow?
• How did you support someone else?
• What strategy will you use next time?

Week 7 provides a timely reminder that success is not defined by talent alone, but by how we respond when things become difficult. We wish our Year 6 students all the very best as they embark on their Canberra experience, embracing new challenges, new learning and opportunities beyond the classroom. We also extend our best wishes to our Year 12 students as they approach Mock Examinations in Weeks 8 and 9, an important opportunity to test their preparation, respond to feedback and demonstrate perseverance under pressure.

Congratulations to our Year 11 students who have participated in this week's Speaking Competition and to those who have engaged in the leadership interview process for 2027 over the past month. Standing up to speak publicly, putting yourself forward for leadership and welcoming feedback all require courage, vulnerability and determination. These are powerful examples of "The Dog" in action. Not simply talent or ability, but the willingness to keep showing up, keep learning, keep reflecting and keep growing when the challenge is real.

This week, a consistent message has been shared with students at Assembly, during PCG and in everyday conversations across the playground: how we present ourselves matters.

Being part of Pacific means being part of something bigger than ourselves. The way we wear our uniform is one of the simplest and most visible ways we demonstrate pride in our school, respect for our community and a commitment to our shared values. From head to toe, our presentation reflects who we are as individuals and as members of the Pacific family.

Students have been talking about uniform expectations as being part of the "PLC aesthetic" and, in many ways, they are right. Just like any team has its kit, our uniform is part of what identifies us as Pacific students. The formal hat, formal uniform, and PLC-branded socks are all important parts of that kit and contribute to a consistent and professional standard of presentation.

We have encouraged students to take a few moments each morning for a quick "ready-for-the-day check" before heading out the door. This simple habit helps build independence, responsibility and attention to detail. More importantly, it allows students to make a conscious shift in mindset from being at home to stepping into their role as a Pacific learner, ready to engage, contribute and grow throughout the day.

When students take pride in how they present themselves, that pride often extends far beyond their uniform. It influences the care they take with their learning, the respect they show for their environment, the way they contribute to the community, and the relationships they build with others. These everyday actions collectively strengthen and enhance our Pacific culture.

As a reminder, students are expected to wear:

•   PLC-branded ankle socks with the sports uniform and the female formal uniform.

•   The formal Pacific hat when travelling to and from school while wearing the formal uniform.

We greatly appreciate the ongoing partnership and support of our families in reinforcing these expectations. Together, we help our young people develop habits of pride, responsibility and belonging that will serve them well both within and beyond Pacific.

You may have heard your child come home recently talking about "flipping their lid," or their "upstairs brain" and "downstairs brain." This is language we've been introducing across the College, drawn from the work of psychiatrist Dr Dan Siegel, and it's proving to be a simple but powerful way for children and adults to understand what's happening inside them when big emotions take over.

Dr Siegel uses a simple model to explain it, one you can try with your own hand. Tuck your thumb into your palm, then fold your fingers over the top. Your wrist and palm represent the "downstairs brain" the brainstem and limbic system, home to our most basic functions: breathing, instinct, and big emotions like fear, anger and excitement. This part of the brain develops early and is always switched on, keeping us alive and alert to threat. Your folded-over fingers represent the "upstairs brain" - the cortex, responsible for thinking things through, weighing consequences, showing empathy and making good decisions. This part of the brain develops more slowly, right through into our mid-twenties and it needs to be online for us to respond thoughtfully rather than simply react.

"Flipping your lid" is what happens when a big emotion overwhelms the downstairs brain and the upstairs brain effectively goes offline. If you lift your fingers up from your palm, you can see it happening - the "lid" (upstairs brain) flips open, and all that's left in charge is instinct and emotion. In that state, a child (or adult) genuinely cannot think clearly, reason, or problem-solve, no matter how many times we ask them to "calm down" or "use their words." The thinking brain simply isn't available yet.

Naming this is where the power lies. When we can say to a child, "it looks like you've flipped your lid," we're not judging them, we're helping them recognise what's happening in their body and giving them language for an experience that can otherwise feel confusing or shameful. It also reminds us, as the adults around them, that our first job isn't to reason or correct, but to help them feel safe and calm enough for their upstairs brain to come back online. This is co-regulation - a calm voice, a steady presence, a few slow breaths together before any conversation about behaviour or consequences can be useful.

Closely linked to this is something psychologists call the "shame compass." When a child feels caught out, embarrassed or told off, often right after they've flipped their lid, they'll instinctively move in one of a few directions to protect themselves. Some children withdraw, going quiet or hiding away. Some avoid, changing the subject, making excuses, or denying it happened. Some turn the feeling inward, becoming harshly self-critical "I'm so dumb," "I always ruin everything." And some turn it outward, lashing out or blaming someone else. None of these are defiance or bad character; they're simply the different ways we all instinctively try to protect ourselves from the discomfort of shame. Recognising which direction your child tends to move in can be enormously helpful — it means that instead of pushing harder in the moment (which usually deepens the shame and sends them further around the compass), we can respond with a bit more warmth and patience and come back to the lesson once they feel safe again.

This is language we're using consistently across classrooms, and we'd love for it to become part of the language of home too. When your child is overwhelmed, you might simply name it — "I think you've flipped your lid, let's breathe together" — rather than potentially launching straight into a discussion about what went wrong. Once everyone's upstairs brain is back in charge, the conversation about choices and next steps becomes far more productive, for children and for us.

Understanding how our brains work doesn't excuse poor behaviour, but it does help us respond to it with more compassion and better timing. As we continue to grow in wisdom and understanding together, we hope this shared language becomes one more way our College and our families support the whole child — mind, body and spirit.

Celebrating BodyKind Month with Butterfly Foundation

This August, Butterfly Foundation is recognising BodyKind Month, encouraging young people, families and communities across Australia to be kinder to their own bodies and to the bodies of others.

Children and young people receive messages about how they are “supposed” to look from an early age through media, social media, peers and the everyday conversations happening around them. Families can play an incredibly important role in helping children develop a healthy, respectful and accepting relationship with their bodies.

Why is this so important?

Body image concerns can begin during childhood and become increasingly significant as young people grow. Recent Australian research from Butterfly Foundation highlights just how common these concerns have become.

In Butterfly Foundation's 2024 BodyKind Youth Survey of young Australians aged 12–18:

• More than half (53.8%) reported feeling dissatisfied with how their body looks.
• 2 in 5 young people said they never or rarely feel good in their body.
• 90% reported at least some concern about their body image.
• 75.5% wished they were thinner or leaner.
• More than half said they never or rarely speak positively about their own body.

These concerns are about much more than appearance. Body dissatisfaction is associated with poorer self-esteem, depressive symptoms, difficulties in relationships and at school and is an important risk factor for disordered eating and eating disorders. This is why the messages children hear about bodies, weight, food and appearance matter. By encouraging body respect and appreciation early, families can help children develop a healthier relationship with their bodies as they grow.

How can families encourage positive body image?

Small changes in everyday conversations can make a big difference.

• Talk about what bodies can do, not just how they look.
  Celebrate strength, energy, creativity, movement and all the amazing things our bodies allow us to experience.
• Be mindful of how you talk about your own body.
  Children notice when adults criticise their weight, shape or appearance. Try modelling kindness towards your own body — even on days when you don't feel particularly positive about it.
• Think twice before complimenting weight loss.
  Comments such as “You look amazing — have you lost weight?” are often intended as compliments, but they can unintentionally teach children and others that being in a smaller body is more desirable, successful or valuable. We also rarely know why someone's weight has changed.
• Take the focus off weight and dieting.
  Try to avoid labelling foods as “good”, “bad” or “naughty”. Instead, talk about food as something that provides nourishment and energy, while also being a source of enjoyment, culture and connection.
• Compliment the whole person.
  Notice qualities that have nothing to do with appearance: “You were really kind to your friend,” “I love how determined you were,” or “You always make me laugh.”
• Make appearance-based teasing off limits.
  Comments about someone's weight, height, body shape or other physical features can have a lasting impact — even when intended as a joke.
• Talk about social media.
  Help children recognise that photos and videos online may be carefully selected, posed, filtered or edited. Encourage them to notice how particular accounts make them feel and remind them that it is okay to unfollow content that leaves them feeling worse about themselves.
• Keep conversations open.
  If your child says, “I hate my body” or “I'm too fat/skinny/short,” resist the urge to immediately dismiss the comment. Instead, be curious: “It sounds like you're having a hard time with how you're feeling about your body. What has been making you feel that way?”

Try this as a family

At dinner, in the car or before bed, try asking:

“What's something you appreciate about your body that has nothing to do with how it looks?”

It could be:

“My legs let me play soccer.”
“My arms let me hug people.”
“My eyes let me read.”
“My body got me through a busy day.”

Regularly shifting the conversation from how bodies look to what bodies allow us to experience can help build body appreciation.

Butterfly Foundation provides excellent free information and resources for parents and carers.

We don't need to get every conversation right. What matters is creating homes where children learn that all bodies deserve respect, food is not something to feel guilty about, movement can be enjoyed and a person's value is never determined by their appearance.

The Pacific Learning Hub is excited to welcome Susan McLean, one of Australia’s foremost experts in cyber safety, to Pacific Lutheran College.

Widely known as Australia’s ‘Cyber Cop’, Susan brings extensive experience in policing, online safety and the protection of young people. During her 27 years with Victoria Police, she became the first Victoria Police officer appointed to a role specifically involving cyber safety and young people.

In 2007, Susan established Cyber Safety Solutions, which has grown to become one of Australia’s most respected cyber safety consultancies. Today, she works with schools, businesses and sporting organisations across Australia and internationally, providing practical, evidence-based education and advice to help children, young people and families navigate the online world safely.

With more than 28 years of experience in the digital space, Susan brings a wealth of knowledge around the challenges facing young people online and, importantly, the practical steps parents and carers can take to support them.

On Friday evening, Pacifics' Blue and Navy Rock Bands helped set the scene for Trivia Night, performing as attendees arrived for the evening.

With the theme “Celebrating 25 Years,” students performed a great selection of songs from across the decades, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere before the trivia officially began.

It was wonderful to see students enjoying the opportunity to perform, support one another and share their music with the wider Pacific community. A big congratulations to both bands on a fantastic performance and thank you for helping get the evening off to such a great start!

Book of the Year Awards

Last Friday, the Children's Book Council of Australia announced the winners of the Book of the Year Awards. Our students from Prep - Year 7 have looked at the nominees across the term and have voted on their own favorites. The winners were:

Book Week Celebrations

There was a lot of fun in the library this week as we celebrated Book Week. Monday was our costume parade and there were some fabulous costumes on display and it was lovely to hear students talking about their book characters.

On Tuesday we had a large audience come and watch our brave karaoke singers who got up and sang for everyone. It was so popular that we decided to run it again on Thursday. We did some music-themed crafts based on the Book Week theme of A Symphony of Stories with students making bell bracelets and mini-guitars, and the competitions were enthusiastically entered into. Friday we will finished with a Kahoot quiz, testing students’ musical knowledge.

The students and parents enjoyed another successful night at the Sunshine Coast Schools Debating Competition.

All teams received positive and constructive feedback from the adjudicators who were very impressed with their debating abilities.

Winter Uniform Reminder

All students in Years 6–12 are required to wear the College winter uniform.

For students in Years 6–9, boys are expected to wear the College tie as part of their formal uniform. In Years 10–12, boys should be in full winter uniform, including the College tie, trousers and blazer. Girls in Years 10–12 are also required to wear the College blazer.

Both zipper and traditional ties are available for purchase via Flexischools or in-store, along with trousers and blazers. Trouser socks, suitable for both male and female students, are also available from the Uniform Shop for wear under trousers.

Whilst in formal uniform, the College formal jumper may be worn if required. Please note that the College sports jacket is only to be worn with the sports uniform.

We appreciate your support in ensuring students present themselves with pride and in accordance with College expectations during the winter season.

Our Trivia Night was a HUGE success!

A massive shout-out to our FoP Event Coordinator, Louise Walker, whose incredible organisation helped make the night such a success. A big thank you also to everyone who contributed to creating such a fun, welcoming and energetic atmosphere!

From dance competitions that had everyone showing off their best moves to fun and competitive games, fantastic music and plenty of laughs, there was certainly something for everyone to enjoy throughout the night!

And of course, a HUGE thank you to our awesome MC, Scott Jamieson. You kept the night moving, kept everyone entertained and brought so much energy to the event. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Most importantly, thank you to all the teams who came along, got involved and embraced the fun. Your enthusiasm, laughter and competitive spirit truly made the night what it was!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who danced, played, cheered, laughed, donated and supported the event. We are incredibly grateful to our wonderful raffle prize donors, whose generosity added even more excitement to the evening.

Primary Netball Teams Shine at Lightning Cup

Last Friday, our two Primary Netball Representative teams took to the court at the Lightning Cup for a fantastic day of competition, connection and team spirit.

The PLC Jewels, featuring students from Years 4, 5 and 6, competed in the Championship division and enjoyed a strong day, securing several match victories while continuing to develop their combinations and teamwork.

The PLC Gems, made up of Year 4 and 5 students, many of whom are new to netball, competed in the Thunder Development division. They finished the day on a high, celebrating a well-deserved win in their final match.

The Lightning Cup provided a valuable opportunity for both teams to put the skills they have been developing throughout the term into practice in competitive court situations. It was also a wonderful chance for students to meet many Lightning players, build confidence and strengthen their team spirit.

The carnival forms an important part of the teams’ preparation for the Primary Schools Cup, which will be held on the first weekend of the September school holidays. We look forward to seeing both teams continue to grow and develop as they prepare for this exciting competition.

What a Season! 

And just like that, Round 14 is complete and our regular season has come to an end!

It was a fantastic final weekend, with some great wins and plenty to celebrate across the Club. A huge congratulations to all of our players on the effort, improvement and teamwork we've seen throughout the season.

We are especially excited to have three PLC teams heading into finals!

• Div 2 Rebels – finished the season undefeated as Minor Premiers
• Div 8 Magic – finished equal first on the ladder
• Div 6 Avengers – secured their finals position with a fantastic final-round win

Our Semi Finals are this Saturday and we would absolutely love to see plenty of Pacific families on the sidelines cheering our teams on.

Save the Date – End of Season Presentation 

Our End of Season Presentation will be held at the Pacific Health and Fitness Centre on Sunday, 13 September from 9:00am–11:30am.

It's always a lovely morning celebrating our players and teams and wrapping up the season together. More information will be shared closer to the date, but for now, please save the date!

Twilight Netball 

Not ready for netball to finish? Neither are we!

We're starting to put together our PLC teams for Twilight Netball commencing in October. Students will soon receive an email inviting expressions of interest, so please keep an eye on your inbox if your child would like to play.

We'll also be looking for Twilight coaches. There is no weekly training, so it's a much lighter coaching commitment and a great way to get involved.

AGM – Come Join Us!

Our PLC Netball AGM will be held Tuesday evening, 15 September, and we'd love to welcome some new parents and supporters onto our committee.

We're looking for an Assistant Registrar, Assistant Uniform & Equipment Manager, Umpire Convenor, Culture & Compliance Manager and General Committee Members.

You don't need committee experience or loads of spare time. The more people we have involved, the easier it is for everyone and it's a great way to have a say and help keep PLC Netball going.

There's still plenty happening before we wrap up 2026 but for now, good luck to Rebels, Magic and Avengers this weekend. Let's go PLC!

Rooball Carnival Wrap-Up

The boys faced their toughest test, but a fantastic comeback and some late game heroics sealed consecutive back-to-back undefeated seasons for the mighty Dragonfish.

A huge thank you to the players and parents for another great season.

Now to get ready for the Premier Invitational on the Gold Coast next month.

U8 Dolphins—Manager Jenna

What a way to finish the season! Our final games of the year were at the Rooball Carnival, and we honestly saw some of the best soccer the Dolphins have played all season! The determination, teamwork and never-give-up attitude from every player was incredible.

Dolphins 5–5 Currimundi 

What a comeback! After going into the second half 4–1 down, the Dolphins fought their way back to an amazing 5–5 draw. Stella performance!

A tough loss, but an incredible display of determination from every player. They never gave up!

Our final game of the season and possibly the best defensive performance we’ve shown all year! A fantastic team effort to finish with a hard-fought draw.

A very special mention to our co-manager Rach and co-coach Ty, who will be stepping away from the Dolphins after 3 incredible years. Thank you both for everything you have done for our kids over the years. Your time, energy, encouragement and commitment have meant so much to the team. You will definitely be missed!

What a season it’s been. We couldn’t be prouder of this bunch! Go Dolphins!

Semi-Finals

U12 Pacific Swordfish versus Chancellor – Manager Amy

The Pacific Swordfish stepped onto the field locked in and ready to go. The team showed incredible grit and determination throughout the match, and the energy could be felt not just among the players, but also from the parents and coaching staff watching from the sidelines.

The first half was a tough contest, with the Chancellor Cranes taking a 2–0 lead into the break. Early in the second half, the Swordfish fought their way back into the game with a goal from Al. At 2–1, the team lifted and the crowd could sense that we were still well and truly in with a chance. Unfortunately, towards the end of the match, Chancellor found the net once more, leaving the final score at 3–1. Although the Swordfish were disappointed at the final whistle, there was still plenty to be proud of. We made it further than we did last year and that gives us plenty of hope and excitement for what this team can achieve next season!

A huge thank you to our coaches for the mentorship, encouragement and commitment they have shown the players throughout the season. Your time, patience and belief in the team has helped every player grow both on and off the field.

As part of our seasonal journey, Growing Space for Faith and Community, this Sunday we reflect on Jesus’ invitation to follow him — not simply as individuals, but together.

Following Jesus takes shape in everyday acts of compassion, generosity, encouragement and care. We discover that faith is not only something we believe; it shapes the way we walk alongside others and respond to the needs around us.

We are especially pleased to welcome Pacific Lutheran College students, who will present donations from their Sleepover for Hope initiative to Mission Possible, supporting people experiencing homelessness and families impacted by domestic violence. It is a wonderful example of young people putting compassion into action and making a difference in our local community.

Children are warmly invited to participate in St Mark’s Makers. This week they will create “Following Jesus” backpack and luggage tags — a simple reminder that wherever life takes us, we belong to Jesus and are called to carry his love with us.

Following worship, everyone is invited to stay for morning tea and friendship, with birthday cake as we celebrate our August birthdays together.

Whether you are part of our regular community, connected through Pacific Lutheran College, or simply curious about faith, there is a place for you at St Mark’s.
